How do you apply for a Canadian visa?

Temporary Visa

A temporary visa or the Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) is one of the most popular visas. The temporary visa is not issued to the citizens of Canada. The Temporary visa is a document that allows you to enter Canada for a particular period. To get temporary access, you need to apply to the Canadian Embassy or consulate in your region. This visa is most suited to citizens like foreign workers who go to Canada to earn a living or students who go to Canada to pursue their education. Apart from this, a temporary visa is often used by tourists. It is the best-suited type of visa for this purpose.

Temporary Visas are also divided into two different categories, namely:

  • Single Entry Temporary Visas
  • Multiple Entry Temporary Visas

Single Entry Temporary Visas:

As the name suggests, Single Entry Temporary Visas allow you to enter Canada for one time only. It is preferable to have your visa documents completed before arriving in Canada. You need to go through the various process before entering Canada. A Canada Border Services Agency officer will check that you meet the criterion for entering Canada. The officer will put a stamp on your passport, approving your stay in Canada. If your passport does not include a stamp, handwritten date, or paper, your temporary resident status expires six months from the date of your arrival in Canada. The expiry date is marked on the certificate, whether you have been granted a visitor record, student, or work permit.

Multiple Entry Temporary Visas:

Multiple Entry Visas allow you to have numerous entries in Canada and refer to the re-enter visa. The Multiple Entry visa is valid for the ten years from the date of issuance or one month before your passport expiry. Although, you can have your passport extended before applying for the visa. If a multiple entry visa is authorized, it will allow you to regularly enter and leave Canada during the visa’s validity duration. On your visa, you must arrive in Canada on or before the expiry date. For a period that ends after the expiry date of your passport, you can’t get a multiple entry visa. If your passport expires prematurely, you can have it extended before applying for a visa. It allows you to enter and leave Canada at any time until the expiring of your visa. Multiple visas are widely suggested if you intend to visit Canada regularly.

A permanent visa or permanent resident is someone who has given the right to stay in Canada. It is a visa issued to the citizens of other countries who immigrate to Canada for asylum or any other reason. Citizens like students who came to Canada for studies or a foreign worker who came to Canada to earn a living are not entitled to have Canada’s permanent resident. The refugees resettled from another country or got the refugee status can apply for a permanent visa. Although, they cannot get the permanent resident status or visa at that time. To get the permanent status, they first need to get approval on their claim. After getting your request approved, you can get the permanent resident status.

After getting the permanent resident status, you will get a PR card as proof. This card needs to be shown while traveling your way back to Canada along with your passport. The permanent resident status also gives you various rights like:

  • You are entitled to most of the social benefits than Canadian citizens have.
  • Health coverage
  • Live, study, or work anywhere in Canada.
  • Also, after getting the permanent residency, you need to pay all the taxes and also need to follow all Canadian Laws.
