This Country for Migrants and Refugees

In 2016, Hungary rejected the EU refugee resettlement plan and has been mostly hostile of asylum seekers, viewing their cultural differences as dangerous and a ‘Trojan horse’ for terrorism. As of 14th June 2017 the EU launched legal proceedings against Hungary for their handling of the refugee crisis – this is worth tracking! At the beginning of March 2017, the Hungarian government approved the mandatory detention of all asylum seekers. All groups (including families) will be held in closed camps on the Serbian border until a decision is made about their case. There are reports of violence and degrading treatment towards refugees attempting to cross the border into Hungary.
