How to get a job in Colombia?

Many people are unaware of Colombia’s remarkable economic growth over the last few decades.

In Colombia, there are several ways to apply for work. Some schools scout teachers from other countries, while larger international corporations advertise on career websites such as indeed.com, while others advertise directly on their own websites.

In Colombia, particularly in the larger cities, the internet, or networking, is the best way to apply for jobs. Small businesses advertise across town or by word of mouth in smaller towns.

You basically have five choices:

  1. Register on websites like elempleo, computrabajo, and/or trabajando in Colombia. There are several options to choose from, and you can filter them by sector, monthly salary, type of work, place, and other factors before applying.
  2. Go to the official websites of the companies you’re interested in and look for the pages on recruitment, employment, and work openings, which are almost always there.
  3. Inquire with Colombian friends and acquaintances if they are aware of any job openings or companies that may have a need for specific professional profiles. You may also look for Colombian Facebook groups and join them to achieve the same goal.
  4. Use Linkedin to monitor Colombian subsidiaries/branch offices of multinational corporations as well as national corporations. Human resources managers should be added because they often post work openings and job calls.

Last but not least, you should try “knocking on doors,” that is, going to businesses that you like or that suit your profile and either asking if they need someone or leaving your resume with someone you know… this works sometimes

What You’ll Need to Get Hired??

Being able to communicate in both Spanish and English will enable you to work in a variety of businesses throughout Colombia. Multinational corporations prefer bilingual English and Spanish speakers, with the majority of interviews conducted in English.

It’s the polar opposite when it comes to English teaching work. If English is your first language, you can get a job with a TEFL or CELTA certificate (regardless of how good your Spanish is). Private schools and colleges, on the other hand, would require a higher standard of education, such as a teaching degree or a PGCE.
